‘Popcorn’ ceiling textures are mainly found in multi-storey apartment buildings, shopping centres, or government buildings such as schools and libraries. Initially used for its fire and soundproofing qualities, later variants in the 70’s and 80’s used non-asbestos-containing vermiculite mixtures. Disturbing this texture can cause dust diseases. It is always recommended to seal the material at a minimum. A Class (A) Asbestos Licence holder is required to handle.
